what an incredible adventure you’ve begun and how moving that the local Native Americans gave you their ceremonial blessing. Nice contrast too between the bridge you started out on, and the Stillwater bridge you left at home!

    Looking forward to hearing more,

    Awesome pictures!

Looks like the Cascades warmed you up for the Rockies. Good luck with your next series of climbs in the Rockies!

I wish I was with you, Roger. Having fixed about five thousand flats in the last twenty five years at my shop, I usually can repair flat tires in under four minutes, but that is with an air compressor. If we use a CO2 cartridge, it would probably be just as fast. Take me with you next time!

I visited my sister in Seattle several times in the past. We visited Neah Bay some years ago. It was my only experience of the Pacific Ocean. We had an all to short time with the afternoon and the clouds and boulders. The majesty of the scene seemed to me to be unforgettable. One could never grow tired of this beach, I thought. We spoke briefly to some Native American youth upon our taking leave. I expressed my reluctance to go They said that they too felt this way despite coming to this same spot almost every day. They never tired of seeing this sunset, this mist, these swells.

Our overnight stay in Sekiu was similar. I arose before the others, as is my habit, and took a walk straight up the hill. Rounding the crest I returned by way of a road, the sign on which read “One of America’s Most Scenic Roads”. I was listening to some recordings on my headphones that I had purchased the night before. (Stanley Turrentine: JOYRIDE and Donald Byrd: A NEW PERSPECTIVE) Now each time I listen to them, I am transported back through time to that exact moment.

My good fortune in having this mild form of Synaesthesia allows me to recall places via music. It can not be summoned at will, not all the time. I used to think that everyone had this, but it appears that my extreme good fortune is rare. Also I think that the music and the landscape must be very pleasant.

I don’t know if you got my last post, as I don’t see it here, but thought I’d check in again.

Your adventure is fabulous. North Dakota is the birthplace of my mother and we still have family, though further east of where you are (Mandan and Bismarck). I love that state. Not surprised you’re enjoying it!

We’ll fear your and Roger’s return as the shape you’ll be in will outdo just about everyone!

Eager to continue to hear more…

    Best,

    Bobbi

    Mary and Roger…

I appears that you have a very tenuous path on the side of those 2 lane highways. Bikers on those types of roads always scare me to death as a driver! At least it appears that the sun is keeping you company…although it’s probably a toss up between hot sun and cold rain as to which you prefer!

Are you officially 1/2 way? That should be a mood booster when you get tired. I love to read your updates.

    Hey Mary and Roger!

Bikin’ PortalPotty –can you imagine signing “bike” plus “potty”? Ah the dilemma of femaleness on these adventures…thanks for the good laugh.

I originally thought we might be able to go up north and cheer you both on. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to join you since we’re planning to leave to visit my mom for the 4th weekend.

Happy crossing in Minnesota! We’re waving from afar!

    Hello Beata and Roger,
Jim suggests the “Peda-pooper” for Roger’s invention. Where will you be in Brainerd? We are hoping to track you down tomorrow.
    Gotta love this weather!

    Hi you two!
You ought to be here…we are 90 degrees at 1:30 with a terrific dewpoint….and to think you are missing this growing grass and corn weather…lucky you!!
Have sent you emails from time to time but they don’t appear wonder where they went? Spose the Apple Ipod intercepted?

Great to read your daily progress and all the downpours, flat tires, beautiful scenery you have enjoyed. We have stayed twice at the Grand Hotel and loved it…about 10 of us ages 10 to 80 and everyone had a good time…the food is fantastic!

Take care and looking forward to your return…love jo

    Hi Mary and Roger
I am completely torn between admiration and jealousy!
I am so proud of you because of the wonderful cause you are supporting in the MDS and for the athletic challenge you have taken on.
I feel I am going to have to try something similar one day as, judging from the photos, you two are getting younger! And you are covering serious distances each day!
The blog is fantastic too and I almost feel like I am there with you at times.
    Keep it up!
    All the very best
    Damian

Thanks for your daily entries to your blog. I’ve enjoyed keeping up with your journey.

You’re inspiring us to imagine a trip like this for ourselves…

Let’s hope Jonathan’s first major mishap on his bike today won’t deter him. His older brother, a friend and he were riding on the boulevard on Summit when his bike hit a root and he flew off. He’s in Regions emergency room as I write, after being referred from urgent care due to the extent of his facial injuries. Doctor has ordered stitches for the lower lip injury. Teeth are intact, I’m told. (I’m home with his brother and his friend who were delayed getting home because the friend got a flat tire on the way home!)

It’s been a wonderfully vicarious experience following you across the US–your descriptions, photos, all—a BIG cause for celebration! Hard to imagine that 50 – 60 miles per day were considered easy, and it looks like you only took off a few days?? Wow—will you ever again be able to just sit in front of a TV to watch the news or a movie??
Thanks so much for making this blog available! – Marty Rice

Ditto on comments others have shared about sharing your experience through your blog.

    Safe returns home!
